Friday Night Lights – Team Competition

Posted: January 19, 2017 in Uncategorized

Friday Night Lights is a 5 week event where CFJ members show each other what it means to be a part of a community that values participation and camaraderie. The details of FNL were discussed here a couple of days ago.

In addition to the Friday night events, which will be huge fun, we will be creating teams within the gym for 5 weeks of friendly competition! There is a sign up sheet at the gym!

Members that have registered for FNL will be placed on one of five in-house teams to participate and compete for prizes! You’ll earn points for your team through participation, spirit, weekly challenges and more.

***The BIG IDEA behind Friday Night Lights is to make it more about community and camaraderie as opposed to making it a “who’s better than who?” competition. That is why points are awarded just for showing up and for accomplishing weekly goals! So if you are worried about not being ready…don’t be! All that is required is that you show up, work hard and cheer on your teammates. As you’ll see in the upcoming rules outlined for the competition, only the top 2 athletes in each division will score additional points for their team so EVERYONE else will be in it for fun and camaraderie!

Our goal is to make this a fun experience for everyone and bring our community together!

Signing up for Friday Night Lights is FREE. There is a sign up sheet on the door to my office at the gym. Sign ups will be open until Wednesday 2/8. When signing up in-house, please choose if you’ll be competing Scaled or Rx. Once registration has closed, all participants will be placed into a pool where your coaches: Jennie, Jayson, Megan, Lucas and Tanya will then draft participants to the teams. Your coach will assign a co-captain and create a private group to communicate with everyone on how to crush the weekly workouts and to earn as many points as possible each week! The “competitive” athletes will be randomly selected and spaced out for each team. Teams will be announced Friday, 2/10 to give time for teams to design and order shirts.

It is NOT REQUIRED that you sign up for the Open through CrossFit for you to be included in our in-house FNL event!!!

If you want to see how you stack up to others around the world, register for the Open here: games.crossfit.com Officially registering for the Open is recommended because your score will always be available to look back on. Plus you get 5 points extra for your team for doing so! Cost of registering for the Open is $20 which you pay online when you register on the CrossFit website.

Points

Teams will earn points each week for the following:
• 5 points – for every athlete that finishes in the top 2 (male or female; any division, see below)
• 2 points – for every athlete that shows up and competes in FNL*
• 1 point – for every athlete that completes the WOD outside of FNL*
• 10 points – goes to the Team that meets the Team Spirit criteria (see below)
• 0.5 point – for every athlete that accomplishes a weekly challenge item (released weekly)
*Athletes will only receive points for completing the WOD one time, but even those that can not make it on Friday nights can still earn points for their team!

All participants have a chance at making it to the Top 2 in the following divisions:
• Men’s & Women’s RX
• Men’s & Women’s Scaled WODs
• Men’s & Women’s Rising Stars (If we have to scale beyond what CF HQ releases as scaled)
• Men’s & Women’s Masters
Teams will have a mix of RX, Scaled, Rising Stars and Masters Athletes. When any of your teammates place in the Top 2 in any of the divisions above, they will receive 5 points for your team.

To earn Team Spirit Points, the following items will be considered:
• Did everyone on the team participate in FNL? (75% minimum)
• Did everyone complete the weekly challenge(s)? (75% minimum)
• Did everyone help cheer, judge and contribute to the all around fun atmosphere?
• Did your team do anything EXTRA to exhibit team spirit?

• You also get your team 0.5 points for every time you judge another athlete!

Teams can do any or all of the following (or other crazy, cool, supportive things) to be considered for EXTRA team spirit:
•Dress up as a themed team (superheroes, zombies, 80’s, etc)
•Bring treats for the other teams
•Provide a TEAM choreographed dance routine or multi-member lip sync routine for FNL “half-time”

More details will follow as teams are selected, but for now…SIGN UP AT THE GYM TO BE A PART OF THIS 5 WEEK CELEBRATION!
